In the later part of 1885, under the solicitation of Mrs. Henry Neumann and Firth Booth Sr., District No. 12 was organized. The first three terms of school were held in Mrs. Emil Englert’s kitchen with Foster Booth as teacher. The three children of Mr. and Mrs. Hank Neumann enrolled. On July 18, 1887, a contract was let for building a schoolhouse to be situated in the center of the district. The building was completed in time for the fall term of school which was taught that year by C.P. Chambers. A Colton District was formed and left the schoolhouse in a remote area for those who attended the school. It was moved but the school was still in an inconvenient location. It was moved again, not as a whole but taken apart in sections which were taken across the creek and rebuilt. It was again ready for occupancy in January 1892, but with the saying that the building should be on wheels so that it could be moved when necessary. There were no changes for 18 years but with the coming of the Village of Sunol, Firth Booth, a man who had the interest of the school at heart and wanted the children to have a high school education without leaving home to obtain it, tried to reconsolidate the district. He passed away with only gaining the ninth grade taught in the school, but in 1918 Colton returned to the District, and a new school was built. In 1920 District 135 consolidated with Sunol and grades K-12 were taught. A bus was also purchased for conveying children to and from school. The first students to graduate in May 1920 were Eunice Booth and Tom Allington. In July 1924 a contract was let to build a gym to the present building and finished under Superintendent J.W. Webb in 1925. The assembly, commercial, and English rooms were added in 1929. In October 1945 the hot lunch program was started under superintendent l.A. Caldwell with Mrs. Joe Ruttner as head cook. The Mustang was designated as the school mascot and the school earned many honors, including the L.P.V. (Lodgepole Valley) Conference champions.
