Staff Development:
Mission Statement Revisit:
- Fall 2004: The School Improvement steering committee determined the method for revisiting and determining the new Creek Valley Schools Mission Statement. This was a new process for the staff due to the 2003-2004 school consolidation.
- Spring 2005: The School Improvement steering committee led the entire Creek Valley staff through the brainstorming of potential mission statements. These were chosen based on current practices and visions for the future. Five potential mission statements were collected.
- Spring 2005: The entire Creek Valley staff chose the Creek Valley Schools’ Mission Statement through a voting process. The chosen mission statement: Preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s world. Final approval and acceptance was granted by Creek Valley School Board members.
Sharing of Success:
- Fall 2006: Administration shared Statewide Writing Assessment results with staff; School Improvement Coordinator presented the final School Improvement Goal with staff, students, and stakeholders
Building a School Profile/Selecting a Goal:
- Summer 2006: School Improvement Team participated in Nebraska Consortium. RWSL, Math, Science, and Social Studies standards were revised and edited based on Criteria 1-6 (STARS). An independent peer-review analyzed tests and aligned to the criteria as well. These tests will be ready for administration during the 2006-2007 school year.
- Summer 2006: School Improvement Steering Committee participated in ESU #13 Creating School Profiles/Analyzing Data Workshop. This professional development provided the opportunity to collect, analyze and interpret student data including Norm-referenced test scores, Criterion-referenced test scores, and other student data.
- Fall 2006: School Improvement Team led the entire Creek Valley staff through the analyzing of Norm-referenced data to initiate the goal selection process. The staff concluded three key areas for improvement: K-12 writing/language arts, 6-12 reading, 6-8 mathematics.
- Fall 2006: School Improvement Steering Committee led the entire Creek Valley staff through the examination of current practices in K-12 reading, writing, and mathematics. This process stabilizes the communication of current practices and helps to better define potential areas for improvement in curriculum or instructional strategies.
- Fall 2006: School Improvement Steering Committee attended a ½ instructional session to best implement the on-line products offered by the Nebraska On-line Assessment Consortium. Paul Ekberg demonstrated the capabilities of using an on-line portfolio for meeting both NCA and Nebraska Department of Education expectations.
- Fall 2006: School Improvement Coordinator and steering committee member attended the ½ instructional session for the implementation of Nebraska On-line Assessment Consortium’s RSWL Portfolio and Curriculum Mapper.
- Fall 2006: School Improvement Steering Committee met to coordinate a staff development with the intention of analyzing data and selecting a district goal. Staff members will meet on Oct. 6th, 2006. During this session, the district staff with analyze data, determine areas of strength and weakness, and will select a goal based on the following fundamentals: academic in nature, measurable, and commitment by staff.
- Fall 2006: Steering Committee member entered all data pertaining to Terra Nova (Norm-referenced) test, Nebraska Statewide Writing Assessment, and STARS results in the On-Line Assessment’s Server 2 Portfolio.
- Spring 2007: Steering Committee developed initial action plans to research best practices in reading, reading comprehension, and vocabulary.
- Spring 2007: A selected group of steering committee members and certified staff attended three workshops focusing on student achievement and vocabulary. Each group will create a brief presentation and will present findings at a weekly staff meeting.
